THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING SIMONE DE BEAUVOIR

Simone de Beauvoir (1908–1986) was a French existentialist philosopher, writer, social theorist, and feminist activist. She wrote novels, essays, biographies, autobiographies, and monographs on philosophy, politics, and social issues. She had a significant influence on both feminist existentialism and feminist theory. Since Bonneville read ‘She Came To Stay’ (the author’s first published novel), Simone de Beauvoir became a constant reference in all of his projects. Her books explore fundamental issues that are central to his own work: autobiography, politics, feminism, gender, sexuality, existentialism and death. They address these issues in different ways, but their foundations and principles are the same - they believe in the quest for truth and believe in the value of culture, because both saved them from despair at an early age.
