The importance of being António de Macedo
a performance by Miguel Bonneville
António de Macedo was one of the most active directors of the New Portuguese Cinema, which explored the direct cinema techniques. Across four decades, Antonio Macedo, presents us with an experimental work of undoubted originality, the importance of which was evidenced by the retrospective at the Portuguese Cinematheque, twenty years after the premiere of his last feature film.
This performance is mainly due to the impact that a slowly overlooked eighty-one year old artist has triggered, piercing through the fifty years that separate us, reminding me that there is an extraordinary artistic quality in my country and that one needs to rediscover it - it should not be forgotten.
